Milwaukee- A jury found a Milwaukee man guilty on Thursday of 16 counts of passing counterfeit money to several West Bend businesses in October.
Sentencing of Cleophus Lobley Jr., 46, is scheduled for Feb. 26. Lobley could be imprisoned up to six years and fined $10,000 on each charge.
According to a criminal complaint, Lobley and two other men purchased items ranging from a fast food "value meal" to nail polish to cat food in 17 separate transactions between 4 and 5 p.m. Oct. 17.
One count against Lobley was dismissed. In each case, the men made purchases for less than $5 and paid with counterfeit $50 bills, receiving a large sum of cash as change, according to court documents.
The bills appeared to have been $5 bills that were bleached to remove the original impression so $50 designs could be printed in their place.
