Judge doubles bail for Texas man in sex case

WEST BEND, Wis. -- A married Texas software consultant accused of traveling to West Bend to have sex with a teen he met online had his bail doubled to $200,000 after prosecutors said he had plans to flee the country with the girl.
Richard Geyer, 42, of Austin, Texas, came to West Bend three times in about a month for the encounters, court documents said. When the 15-year-old girl's parents learned of the relationship, they reported it to police and he was arrested.
An affidavit filed in Washington County Circuit Court said Geyer's initial bail of $100,000 should be doubled because he had not turned in his passport as ordered by Judge Patrick Faragher. It said his text messages to the girl indicated there were plans to go to Canada and then Scotland.
In one message, Geyer told the girl "they don't have to live in Scotland, but they could get married there and that they should talk to an attorney about what it would take to stop a juvenile from leaving the country," the affidavit said.
The judge granted the motion to increase bail during a hearing June 20. He ordered Geyer to hand in the passport immediately, which he did, and directed that he have no more contact with the girl.
The criminal complaint said Geyer and the girl met in an online chat room in February, and Geyer eventually got her cell phone number and they talked frequently.
Geyer told an investigator that by the time the teen told her her true age, "it was too late because they were already in love," the complaint said.
